When your internet provider changes, you may be surprised at how many of your online services are affected
- by admin
The first thing you might notice when your internet service provider changes is how fast it’ll change your internet connection.
If your internet is slower than the previous month, it’s possible that you’re missing out on a lot of features and services.
For example, Netflix may take a while to update to the latest version.
But if your internet speed is faster than it was before, it might take you hours to get through the latest episode of Netflix.
In the meantime, it can take up to two weeks before your internet providers is able to make changes to your service.
So if you’re struggling to find the speed you want, it could mean that you’ll be able to skip a lot more of the service’s features than you might have thought.
To see what your internet will look like over the next few months, we’ve broken down the major changes in the US and UK in a table below.
The chart above shows the speed difference between different internet providers in the United States and the UK.
It shows the average internet speed of each provider from the time the company launched in January 2019 to the time it launched in September 2020.
As of October 1, 2020, Cox internet plans have an average speed of 2.5 Mbps, Netflix plans have a 1.4 Mbps average, and Comcast internet plans average 1.9 Mbps.

If that doesn’t satisfy, there’s also the option to choose your internet plan from the service provider’s website, which is updated every day.
If internet service providers are changing how much speed they offer to different internet users, it may affect how much you can expect to get on the internet.
For instance, the internet speed in the chart above might be the same in different cities and countries.
But the service providers’ plans might be different than your own.
For most people, the average speed on Cox internet will likely be around 2.8 Mbps.
But some people might see their internet speeds drop by up to 10 percent in some areas.
Netflix and YouTube, for example, might not be able offer speeds as high as those offered by Cox internet, while Netflix might offer speeds that are 10 percent slower.
The table below shows the speeds that Cox internet customers in the UK and US have experienced since October 2020.
The most recent figures available show that internet speeds have dropped by around 5 percent in the country, and 4 percent in Britain.
If the internet speeds on Cox and Netflix aren’t the fastest, it will mean that some people won’t have access to the internet as much as they once did.
If this happens, you could be able get online much more quickly than you think.
