Mexico: What You Need to Know about Cable and Internet in Mexico

The U.S. and Mexico have long had very different telecommunications systems, but that is changing.
In 2014, the U.s. passed net neutrality rules and in 2016 Mexico enacted a similar law that allows for internet access without caps.
Mexico’s telecoms regulator, Movimiento de Telecomunicaciones, has also begun requiring internet service providers to offer certain services and to provide data caps.
But while Mexico’s rules are aimed at preventing ISPs from blocking or slowing down websites, they do not require internet service to have any kind of data caps, a major concern for many internet users.
Mexico has also not passed laws regulating mobile carriers or allowing companies like Netflix to provide their services over the internet.
But that is expected to change soon.
