Comcast plans to increase broadband speeds in the U.S. by $5 per month, as the company struggles to win back customers.
Comcast announced the new rate change Monday, saying it would go into effect from Jan. 1.
Comcast said it was the first major U.K. company to do so.
“We are announcing the increased price for broadband service, which is $50 a month per customer,” Comcast said in a statement.
“We are committed to delivering the most reliable and affordable broadband service in the United States, and this new price is a critical step in that direction.”
The announcement came less than a week after Comcast said that it would hike its broadband prices by $100 per month in the next 12 months.
The price hike comes after Comcast lost subscribers to rivals Charter Communications and Verizon Communications.
The move comes amid growing competition from new competitors like Google Fiber.
